On the occasion of Stepan Sarpaneva's 100th watch built under his eponymous brand, Mr. Sarpaneva celebrated with a true Piece Unique version of the "Loiste", one of Sarpaneva's earliest and rarest models.
With a distinctive case shape inspired by the kickstart pinion of Stepan's Harley Davidson, we can begin to see Stepan's design vision which carries through to this day, most recently with his phenomenal Supernova line. Underneath the steel dauphine shaped hands lies a black dial with applied stick indices which appear and disappear as light bounces off its surface.
The reverse side reveals a surprise previously unseen in a Sarpaneva: a vintage Buren Caliber 1280, automatic winding by way of a micro-rotor and an escapement which beats at an uncommon 2.75 Hz (19,800 semi-oscillations an hour). The bridges appear to be hand skeletonized and finished and given a bead blast finish to the top surface. Underneath the SARPANEVA signed micro-rotor is a mainplate coated dark and finished with perlage.
The Stainless Steel case measures 41mm x 7.7mm x 46.5mm lug-to-lug and is in excellent condition. Furnished on a bespoke short length ostrich strap with orange lining from Mill Handmade with steel pin buckle. Also provided is the original regular length black alligator strap in worn condition. The caseback is engraved with the name of the client who commissioned this piece (circa 2006) and is supplied with the original black leather case.
This watch received a complete overhaul at the Sarpaneva Atelier in Finland in February 2025.
