Horology By The Sea is thrilled to present this Grönefeld One Hertz Red Gold, a masterpiece of horological artistry crafted by the renowned Horological Brothers, Bart and Tim Grönefeld.
The One Hertz’s calibre G-02 is a totally original, in-house developed movement featuring stainless steel bridges and exceptional fine finishing. In a dead seconds complication, friction of the mechanism has to be absolutely minimal so it does not interfere with the escapement and timing. For the One Hertz, Bart and Tim Grönefeld developed an independent dead seconds mechanism that is driven from its own secondary gear train with its own independent power supply. The dead seconds are driven from one mainspring barrel and the hours and minutes from another. The One Hertz’s innovative dual drive train results in less friction compared to other jumping seconds mechanisms. A more constant amplitude is obtained and thus assuring superior accuracy. The movement operates at 3 Hz and features a Free Sprung Variable Inertia Balance Wheel.
On the front side we see a lovely frosted dial made of solid silver. At 2 o’clock, a sub-dial gracefully presents hours and minutes juxtaposed against the largest subdial showcasing jumping seconds. The elevated ring of the seconds allow for the hour and minute hand to travel underneath for 13 minutes of each hour (seen in the video, slide 3). A power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock charts the 72 hours or reserve of the G-02 caliber. Last, an indicator at 3 o'clock displays whether the crown is currently in Winding (W) or Setting (S) position. When interested to wind the watch, push down the crown to W position and rotate the crown clockwise. This position will also allow the movement to operate freely. When interested to set the time, push the crown down to move over to S position... here you will be allowed to change the time while simultaneously hacking the balance wheel (also seen in the video, slide 3).
