A stunning example from one of my personal favorite makers, this SARPANEVA K3 Guilloché exhibits Stepan's enigmatic "moonface" navigating just underneath a beautiful guilloché dial from Kari Voutilainen's dial manufacture, Comblémine. Each of the white gold moons are crafted in solid 18k white gold.
For his iconic moon phase watches, Stepan modifies the quick set calendar mechanism of the Soprod A10 caliber to work perfectly as a moon phase complication. Stepan introduces a wheel with 59 teeth (two teeth for each day of the 29.5 day cycle) in place of the date wheel which ordinarily has 31 teeth. He then takes added steps to ensure the mechanism will not break should the hands move in an anti-clockwise direction. On the reverse side we find yet another solid gold Moonface on the winding rotor with lattice pattern.
The scalloped case is another SARPANEVA signature and is is a joy to wear. Though the diameter is 42mm, my impression is the case wears closer to 40mm-41mm on the wrist. The case measures 42mm x 11mm x 45.5mm lug-to-lug and is in excellent condition. As Stepan says, his watches are #NotForEveryone but this one could be yours.
