Rooted in the rich Saxon tradition of watchmaking and guided by a deep commitment to handcraft, KUDOKE creates timepieces defined not by excess, but by depth and character.
With the introduction of tremblage dials for the KUDOKE 1, the manufacture turns to one of the most refined and demanding engraving techniques in haute horlogerie. At first glance, the surface appears calm, almost understated. Yet with time, it reveals a remarkable depth - a quiet expression of patience, control, and true craftsmanship.
Tremblage is recognized instantly, yet only fully understood upon closer inspection. This traditional engraving technique is among the most demanding forms of surface finishing in haute horlogerie and is deeply rooted in classical watchmaking, including the long-standing Saxon tradition of fine hand engraving.
The name “Tremblage” is derived from the French word “trembler”—meaning “to tremble” or “to vibrate”—and accurately describes the characteristic motion used to hand-work the surface with a fine graver in countless steps. At KUDOKE, this process is carried out entirely in-house, from the first touch of the graver to the final finish, including the electroplating. Each piece therefore carries the unmistakable signature of the artisan’s unique craftsmanship.
The greatest challenge lies in achieving the perfect balance: a seemingly calm, uniform surface is created through thousands of minute, precisely controlled movements. Even the slightest deviation in pressure or angle would disrupt the overall effect. It is precisely this consistency and precision that make tremblage one of the most subtle and, at the same time, most demanding disciplines of engraving. The result is a surface of remarkable subtlety – soft, almost velvety, absorbing light rather than reflecting it, and revealing a quiet yet profound sense of depth.
In the KUDOKE 1, the tremblage surface becomes the stage for a reduced, classical design while opening up new possibilities of expression. The characteristic small seconds can be executed either as a contrasting circular-grained subdial or fully integrated into the tremblage surface, creating two distinct visual identities – one defined by contrast, the other by continuity.
Applied rhodium-plated elements rise crisply from the textured background, creating a balanced interplay between depth and clarity. The result is a dial that feels both calm and alive.
In view through the sapphire caseback is Kudoke's manually wound Kaliber 1 which beats at 4 Hz and delivers a power reserve of 46 hours. The bridges are finished with a "Reibfläche" (grinding) technique resulting in a fine, granular frosted finish and provides a lovely contrast to the polished bevels along the bridge edges. A floral pattern is hand engraved into the balance cock making each movement unique to the specific watch.
