This specific model serves as the culmination of Richard Habring’s career-defining innovation: the split-seconds chronograph. While he famously democratized the rattrapante mechanism during his tenure at IWC in the 1990s, the Doppel-Felix signifies the full maturation of that concept, housed for the first time entirely within the brand's proprietary architecture.

Aesthetically, the Doppel-Felix Date balances technical complexity with visual symmetry. The "Date" designation in the model name refers to the pointer date complication, a feature that significantly enhances the dial's balance. Rather than utilizing a date window that disrupts the surface, Habring² employs a fifth central hand that points to a date track on the outer periphery of the dial. This design choice maintains the purity of the display, allowing the sub-dials to breathe and preserving the classic elegance of the instrument. The reverse side reveals the in-house Calibre A11RD which operates at 4 Hz and carries a power reserve of 48 Hours. The "Doppel" (German for double) refers to the split-seconds complication, widely considered one of the most difficult mechanisms to manufacture. It allows the wearer to time two concurrent events of different durations—a feat controlled here by a distinct pusher configuration. The movement is a mono-pusher chronograph, meaning a single button at the 2 o'clock position handles the start, stop, and reset functions, while the button at 10 o'clock actuates the split-second hand.
